I got a promotion at my job. To celebrate, I got myself a Kindle Fire. My computer technician friend advised that it would be the cheapest tablet-like thing (she used other words) I could get and that it would suit my purposes well enough (she knows I only read and send emails on the computer). I couldn't afford shipping though so I'm only going to get it in the first week of January. I probably shouldn't have bought it at all considering that I need to buy clothes but fuck it, the ones I have now can last a couple of more months

I got straight B's this semester with only two B+'s. I think I really stopped giving a dick after I got into medical school.

In other news, I started exercising again after stopping for like five-six months (long story). I went jogging and it's like I have to start all over again. I'm running really slowly and taking frequent breaks. After how in shape I was, it's pretty discouraging. I know I'll get to where I was if I keep at it though.

Anyway, I finished A Clash of Kings and started A Storm of Swords.

End of A Clash of Kings: I knew Theon was going to go after Winterfell. What an asshole. When I thought he'd killed Bran and Rickon (and their wolves) my hatred reached its critical point, I swear. Then we found out that he only murdered some random kids and I was like . . . so? I mean, it's cool that he didn't kill the kids who are part of the story but . . . he still murdered and beheaded two children. Not to mention all the people he killed to scare everyone into obeying him and the woman he raped to soothe his manpain about how nobody at Winterfell liked him even though he was "nice" in his conquering. I do believe Theon has surpassed Littlefinger in suckitude. At least I was happy when Asha refused to send him help and basically told him that taking over castle being guarded by two little boys wasn't much to brag about, even if he did do it in one night.

Even though I was happy that Tyrion managed to win his big battle, I was sad that Joffrey didn't bite it at the battle of Blackwater. Joffrey's another character who's so comically evil that hating him seems like a waste of my time. Obviously, he will die horribly at some point. Also, it seems like Cersei's turning into one bitter drunk. I'm not sure how I feel about her. On the one hand, she proved to be a dumbass over and over again in A Clash of Kings. On the other hand, she expressed anger at how limited her choices were because she was a woman. She obviously hated to be sold into marriage and resented being mostly separated from Jaime when he started his knight training. I almost sympathized with her, and I do to an extent, but then I remembered the brother fucking. Also, she needs to stop enabling Joffrey's monstrosity.

I felt Catelyn's pain when she heard that Bran and Rickon had been killed, so I don't begrudge her setting Jaime free in an attempt to get her daughters back. Unfortunately, I know the tone of this series pretty well by now, so I know it's going to come back and bite her in the ass. I'm glad the story of Renly, Stannis, and Robb's war is being told mostly through her POV because we're getting a woman's take on all this war business going on in Westeros. Catelyn doesn't dwell too much on the actual battles and war strategies, but she gets to tell the negative effects of the war and highlight just how stupid and proud most of the knights are. I think her friendship with Brienne has a lot of potential too.

Daenerys' story bored the hell out of me all throughout the book. It's sad because she really was one of my favorite characters in A Game of Thrones, but I'm quickly losing all connection with her. I'm not sure why anymore. I'll think on it more. The war for the iron throne is also getting to be pretty tedious, which is interesting because I was really interested in it throughout most of A Clash of Kings. I think that the whole thing was suffering from arc fatigue by the the battle at Blackwater. This one isn't even hard for me to understand. I just want Joffrey dead, okay. I don't even care that he's thirteen.

Arya/Sansa: Arya's the character travelling throughout Westeros and letting us know just how bad shit's gotten for the villages. Her story line is getting pretty creepy too. While it's cool to see her pick off the truly awful monsters who've been abusing her, it's really disturbing to see a nine/ten year old girl turn into a ruthless killer. As for Sansa, I count two random dudes who are sort of fixating on her on a romantic/creepy way. I'd be alright with it if they all weren't grown men and she wasn't about fourteen. I know that this is set in fantasy medieval times and that girls were married off in their early teens back then. But I'm a modern reader, damn it. That stuff is just creepy to me.

And finally, Jon Snow. His plot was officially the most interesting one towards the end of A Clash of Kings. I really want to see how he goes about spying on the wildlings beyond the wall and how he's going to handle the "Others". I want to learn more about Ygritte too. I'm pretty sure that Ygritte's hitting on Jon Snow, which is quite hilarious because he seems completely and utterly oblivious to it. It's funny, Jon Snow had the least interesting plot line the first book, and now I look forward to his chapters the most. He's completely traded places with Daenerys.
Holy shit, I really can talk a lot can't I?
